Volunteering Opportunities

We recognize that each and every individual is equipped with different gifts, talents, and passions. We have an abundance of opportunities for you to become involved, and desire for it to bless you as much as it blesses us! Volunteering could be directly engaging through building relationships with the families we serve as a Client Advocate or spending time loving on children. In a less direct, but equally important to what we do, in a more “behind the scenes” way, with helping us sort donations, administrative assistance, cleaning and organizing, prep for or help during an event, or by making a meal, as a few examples.  If you’re interested to learn more about the different volunteer opportunities we have, please contact our Engagement Director today!

Children's Program Volunteer - Assist in our programming just for children, which provides a safe and positive environment where children enjoy fun-filled activities, developmental and creative play, and age-appropriate learning opportunities that go Hand-in-Hand with our parents' programs! One opportunity is on Tuesday evenings from 7-8pm, year-round. Additionally, we are always looking for “teachers” during Parenting in Progress, that runs as 16-week cohorts during January-May, and August-December, on Monday evenings from 5-8pm.

Meal Volunteer - It's no secret that food brings people together, so Helping Hands likes to provide a free meal to the families that commit to our parenting education course; these meals are eaten together around the table as a family, to foster a positive nurturing practice. These volunteers are also our go-to people for events and parties, and for client families in crisis. You may also be reached out to when summertime comes up, as we provide a free summer lunch program in Montpelier on Tuesdays, June-July!

Special Events Volunteer - Help us in in the event pre-planning process, day-of coordination, set up, and tear down for the events we have throughout the year! This includes the 100 Women Initiative, the Disc Golf Tournament, and our Annual Benefit!

Administrative Volunteer - Commit to a 2–4-hour shift in our office to assist with data entry, mass mailings, creating documents, logging inventory, and writing thank you cards!

Group Mentor - Regularly attend and participate in a group setting, providing a positive influence, helpful insight within guided topics, healthy experiences of social support, and a message of “you are welcomed here, and you belong.”

Client Advocate - We like mentorship relationships to develop naturally. If you are interested in one-on-one client support, you would first start with volunteering as a group mentor. As you begin to form a connection with an individual client, we then provide you with further training, as well as ongoing support and guidance. A Client Advocate’s role is both a mentor and a friend, as you build relationships, and provide encouragement and support, as this individual works towards setting and achieving goals in their life.

Church Ambassador - Represent us within your church and to your pastoral staff. Provide ongoing information on how the church can be the hands and feet of Jesus for Helping Hands, through prayer, volunteer opportunities, generosity in financial giving, or donation drives for material resources.

Center Support Volunteer - Help maintain our building’s needs to keep us functioning and professional! This may include deep cleaning, building maintenance, or repairs. We have ongoing opportunities for groups of people to be involved even if just for an evening or day!

Prayer Volunteer – Our staff gathers together on Monday afternoons from 11:30am-12pm to pray, and prayer volunteers are welcome to join us in person each week, or to include us in your own time of prayer, as we cover our clients, center, community, and world in prayer. None of what we do is without God and we are intentional about keeping him first in all that we do.
